Hallowed Halls

On one of the rainiest days in April, the Museum went on a trip called "Hallowed Halls." We ran in and out of the bus, with the driver always trying to stop as near to the sites as possible, but you know how impossible that is in Manhattan!
First stop..The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, recently re-opened after partial restoration after severe fire damage in 2001.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is "chartered as a house of prayer for all people " and the altar exemplifies this philosophy; the crucifix with oriental vases of cherry blossoms and menorahs on each side; banks of lilies...the traditional Easter flower.

Then to the Temple Emanu-El (no photos allowed) .
High Tea at another kind of "hallowed" hall...the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The final stop was a tour of St. Patrick's Cathedral.

We arrived at the Performing Arts Center (after the tour of the Hessel Museum) in the late afternoon. The time of day and the winter landscape were ideal for photos of the work of architect Frank Gehry.
