It Ain't Easy Being Bresson!

During the lunch break from the Tamron Photography Workshop at the New Yorker hotel I took a walk down 34th Street in the drizzly rain. Still under the influence (of Henri Cartier-Bresson, that is), I tried to get some candid street shots. First, I acted like I was focusing on the Swarovski storefront; then I got the back and profile shots, but just as I was circling to get to the portrait shot of these two tourists? students?, I got busted by one of them! Taken by surprise, the shot is slightly out of focus on the subject.

I didn't want to carry my usual zoom, so I had only the Nikon 50mm 1.4 fixed lens on the camera. I can see I need more practice with this lens.

Since I can't zoom, I had to walk away or towards my subject...a lot harder to be sneaky and unnoticed.

I was so impressed by first, the Henri Cartier-Bresson MOMA exhibit (recently closed), and then the documentary I got from Netflix "Henri Cartier-Bresson: The Impassioned Eye." I went through my photos from everywhere, converted some to Black & White, and tried to select those that demonstrate that "click moment" in time.

Photographing Philadelphia

While still in the "Henri Cartier-Bresson" mode...a collage of photos taken on a bus tour to Philadelphia with the Newark Museum. Most were done using the Nikon D80 in-camera black & white setting.
