Hallowed Halls

On one of the rainiest days in April, the Museum went on a trip called "Hallowed Halls." We ran in and out of the bus, with the driver always trying to stop as near to the sites as possible, but you know how impossible that is in Manhattan!
First stop..The Cathedral of St. John the Divine, recently re-opened after partial restoration after severe fire damage in 2001.

The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is "chartered as a house of prayer for all people " and the altar exemplifies this philosophy; the crucifix with oriental vases of cherry blossoms and menorahs on each side; banks of lilies...the traditional Easter flower.

Then to the Temple Emanu-El (no photos allowed) .
High Tea at another kind of "hallowed" hall...the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. The final stop was a tour of St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Up on the Roof with Frank Stella

Monday was a great day to be up on the roof of the Metropolitan Museum. Deep blue skies and white clouds, framed by the architecture of the sculptures by Frank Stella.
